Graffiti?
Driving down the highway the other day, I noticed there is almost no graffiti here in Nova Scotia. I saw two entries over the course of an hour and a half drive. One was a rubicks cube painted on a square rock and the other entry said “All Good!”
This is not a province full of angry angsty teens. Sure we have those too, but we have a huge mass of happy, healthy teens unfettered by media urgings to be moody, on meds, angry and in need of a relationship. Instead many crank folk tunes on the boom box and trip out to fishing.
It’s nice to experience life outside the bubble.
Novia Scotia Had to be Added
So much good is going on in Nova Scotia, I had to add it as it’s own category.
I spent most of my life in BC, living in Victoria, UpIsland, Vancouver and the Okanagan while there. Recently I moved to Nova Scotia and I can’t begin to tell you what a great move it was.
Sure, I work from a laptop (soon from my IPad!) so I can be anywhere, this is a lifestyle for the similarly employed. But for those who ARE free to roam, it can’t be beat.
Bieber just a Boy
Why is the Media asking Bieber what his “relationship” status is? He’s a boy.
Further more who cares? OH yah.. we need the little girls to think he’s single.. it keeps the fever alive just a bit longer.
Tony Defranco?
Bay City Rollers?
Nope, you have no idea who that is. They too were boy wonders, back in 1975. The kid will be chewed up and spit out by Usher and the like as soon as the little girls who found him.. move on to the next cute boy on YouTube.
Doesn’t his voice have to change at some point too?
Replacing Cable and Loving it
How can you get rid of cable and still have the entertainment factor?
Apple TV
I use my ITouch, but the AppleTV unit is made for the task. Essentially, you buy your shows and keep them. You can also buy or rent movies using it.
The cost of Cable is absurd. Here is a look at todays average Cable Bill
- Cable (190 Channels) 79.00
- Phone (most add it) 30.00
- Long Distance 25.00
So for a total of 149.00 you have TV and a phone? When did that become acceptable? By making it hundreds of channels they also seem to have cause most people to think its a good deal!
But how many of you WATCH the channels? I have 4 or 5 that I watch. The rest is what I let pass in front of my face because its convenient. I wouldn’t buy most of that crap by the show. And how much of that programming is new? Lot of dough for reruns.
I spend about 25.00 on ITunes TV Shows Per month. For that I get every show I ever wanted, from my favorite Discovery Channel shows to Lie To Me, House and so on, and I have a growing library that at lets me program my own TV schedule, I now have months worth of entertainment and it just keeps growing!
- At home I also use skype for my phone and long distance
- I spend 15.00 per month on my pay as you go cell as a result
- I program my own TV Schedule
- My Itouch does everything an IPHone does
- 40.00 per month total
… so the ONLY thing I am missing is the ridiculous bill and someone else telling me what to watch.
Time to get clever people.
It’s almost here!
So I found out my IPad is almost here! Last time I checked it was in Dartmouth, it can’t be more than a day away
I’ve been eagerly surfing for the apps I’m going to need, the goad is to replace at least one laptop and stay on the net more when I’m moving about the province.
One of the things I love about the IPad is that Apple told the Cell phone networks what the fees shall be, no stupid games, no silly contracts. No buying computers from kids at cell phone kiosks while they adjust their tukes and tell you things are all good (while your head explodes trying to explain its just not all good when you phone stops working).
I’ve had an ITouch for over 6 months now. I have to say it’s truly amazing. As well it’s saved me a ton of cash on phone bills. I loaded skype on, so now in any hot zone I just use it to make calls. In bigger cities it’s all a big hotzone so you can put your IPhone away and save a ton – better yet, wise up and skip the IPhone, get an ITouch and a month to month cheap cell. You’ll thank yourself over and over, in particular if the thing ever breaks down. Have you seen what they want for an IPhone after you are locked in? HAHAHAHA.
Will the ITouch hit the back burner once it’s bigger sister gets here? Not likely, I also needed something to replace the cable I canceled. The ITouch will be my TV Server
The Lottery and the Airline
If the chances of your plane crashing are the same as that of winning the lottery, why do we get on planes thinking it can’t happen, and buy lottery tickets thinking it can?
I ordered an IPad
Until recently, I was sure the ITouch was by far the coolest and best new tech gadget invented.
Let me back up. Techs, I mean web techs, can work from any location that lets you get on the net. Restricted only by your battery life, you can work from under a rock if you want.
But while shopping at Safeway or sipping at Starbucks? The answer, since the ITouch, is yes.
SFTP? There’s an app for that!
File Sharing? Yep, there’s an app for that.
SSH? Uh huh. App for that ![]()
Skype! Yes, I can call anyone using that.. anytime!
In short, short of making webpages, as long as I’m in WiFi ground, the Itouch does everything I need to keep my income flowing.
But then came the IPad.
- Bigger screen
- More robust apps for my needs
- Oh.. and it works while driving, golfing, you name it.
Long as I’m in a Cellular zone, I’m on.
The cellular on time rates
Apple told Rogers and Bell what they shall charge, so no silly packages and contracts, they simply have to impress me to keep my income flowing their way. I chose Bell, they have a few extra gigs for the money, plus last year Rogers let me pay wayyy to much for an over the top package for farrr too long.. and when I tried to gear it down they fussed. The only thing that saved me, and it always does, is that I never signed a contract.
